Reggina have been indicted on match-fixing charges following the punishments given to Juventus, AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina last month. If these new allegations are proved then there is no doubt that Reggina can expect to be relegated, although that could be overturned on appeal. A number of referees are also thought to be implicated for failing to report bribes. One of them being Italian wild eyed legend Collina. One of the greatest referees ever to be involved in the game may have to appear in court, to explain his failure to report attempts to tap him up before games. I wouldn’t be surprised if they threw the book at Reggina because they are a smaller club. Juventus are disliked by many in Italy but the other clubs who had there sentences reduced are all relatively well liked. It would be typical of Italian justice, if they now handed out the most severe of punishments to a club that no-one really cares about.
