Crystal Palace maintained there 100% record and scored to the top of the Championship table after coming from behind once again to register a 3-1 victory.
Freddy Eastwood scored an 18-yarder just before half-time to put South End one nil up, proving he really is a talent set for the highest level. A powerful 52nd minute header from Leon Cort drew the Eagles level. Before substitute Dougie Freedman sprang the offside trap three minutes later to put the hosts ahead and defender Mark Hudson sealed the points on the hour. Palace are going to be a real threat this year, with Peter Taylor’s proven track record of playing exciting and effective attacking football. South End on the other hand are going to have a real struggle on their hands especially if they lose Eastwood to a bigger club. The way he has started the season it seems almost inevitable. The managers had this to say:
Crystal Palace manager Peter Taylor:
"Words were said at half time, but the players know when they are doing well and when they aren't.
"So we just reminded them about their own standards.
"In the second half, obviously an early goal helped and we went on from there."
Southend boss Steve Tilson:
"There are lessons to be learned. We conceded from two set plays so we need to be stronger in the box.
"And, for the second goal, we were trying to play offside.
"Overall we played some good stuff and I'm pleased with the performance. I've told the lads if we play like that week in week out then we'll be fine."
