Graham Taylor has told the Sun newspaper that he belives Martin O’Neill will turn Aston Villa into an English superpower.

And the former Villa and England boss even tips Maverick Martin for a top-three finish this season. I’m not so sure myself seen as though he hasn’t made any signings as of yet, but who knows.

Taylor said: "I cannot see why, if they get things right off the pitch, Villa can’t challenge for a top-three place every year.

"I think that’s what attracted Martin to the job. Of course, he could even achieve that in his first year and that would be fantastic.

"But he has time to build the club and will relish the challenge.

"He’s the sort of manager who will stay at a club for four or five years and not cut and run after one bad year. Villa need that stability.

"The important thing wasn’t that Villa picked him but that he picked Villa. That will make a massive difference.

"That might surprise people but, if you look at it realistically, he wasn’t going to get any of the top four jobs." (The Sun)

Taylor says the former Celtic chief will get the best out of his players, which is definitely something I’d agree with. Martin’s greatest skill is his man management. He just needs some striking talent to score the goals. In defence the team are pretty solid, with young superstar Gary Cahill set to be an England player within the next 2 years. There is a definite lack of creativity in the side but I’m sure that can be rectified in the not too distant future.

Sorenson is the best keeper in the world,
Mellberg is a great centre half,
Barry should be England captain,
Hendrie is the best player outside the Championship,
McCann is hard as nails,
Angel used to play for Boca Juniors under 19's,
Baros was top scorer in the European championship a few years ago,
.....And that is why I believe Villa United will run away with the Bundesliga this season. End of!!!

Top 3??
Well I've just looked at the table and they have 0 points and haven't scored a goal so obviously they haven't made a great start to the new season. Burnley are on 6 already!!

Where’s all the negative energy coming from what happened to 'give peace a chance'. I say if man can land on the moon then villa can avoid relegation and to show my unwavering commitment to the cause i have included Sorrenson in my dream team. Oh thanks for the name check this is probably my 15 minutes.

Good, Good. Only slightly jaded. I've made it to lunch time which was the first hurdle. Once I've lunched and the afternoon is upon us there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Oh dear I've created a monster... on eplayer who would walk staright into aresenal Chelsea liverpool etc... Kevin Philips, he's bagged three in his last three on pro-evo since Martin O'Neill took over. He's like a breath of fresh air. You can't knock a man with that much inner belief
