One chance, one goal. That's what you get with a player of Andrei Shevchenko's outstanding quality. And that's what the striker delivered on his Chelsea debut.

I hold my hands up and admit I was wrong. Last week I predicted that Shevchenko would struggle in the premiership this season and that £30 million for a thirty year old was way too much. One chance, one goal and my view has changed somewhat. That's what you get with a player of Andrei Shevchenko's outstanding quality. And that's what the striker delivered on his Chelsea debut. They have clearly acquired a player who can do something very few others could have done to this star-spangled outfit - improve them markedly with his exceptional attributes. Thirty million pounds? Yes, it's an awful lot of money but sometimes in this mad, bad, over-hyped world of football you do actually get what you pay for. He is widely regarded as the best in his field, and I feel he could quite easily end up with 25 goals this season. His goal though, clinical as it was, is not the reason for my change of heart. The reason for my doubts were, how he would cope with the hustle and bustle of the premier league after spending most his career in the much slower paced and less physical Serie A? It was early in the second half, when he showed another side to his game, his wiry strength, by barging Carragher to the floor when chasing a bouncing ball - an obvious foul, granted, but it betrayed a steely frame that shouldn't be found wanting amid the Premiership's muck and bullets.

Oh I concur fusive. Andre was like antelope with the strength of a rhino. Never have I seen a man of his age, with such youthful promise and desire. Just to check...when you wrote wiry did you mean wirey. Easy , mistake to make, and obviuosly it can't be easy writing all these articles, you must be exhausted. Keep up the good work, I'm behind you 100%

Yeah nice one annonymous You seem to have great difficulty spelling as well. Lets not get into an educational war though. The football is all that matters. Do you think Kev Keegan never made a grammatical error? Of course he did, but that doesn't mean he didn't boss the show when he was a tiger of a centre forward..."Now it's Kevin Keegan - I just hope it happens."

I refer to the above post of 5:49pm today from anonymous. Yes I did mean WIRY and not WIREY as you state because there isn't such a word. Wiry is indeed an actual word although I could have used thin, lean, sinewy, tough, strong and probably many others. In future please refrain from making such petty observations and let me get on with my job, which is of course to provide opinions and thoughts on that wonderful game called soccer.
