So today is the day. The European transfer window closes at midnight tonight and as always there will be a lot of activity throughout the football world. There are usually a few surprising changes, with players moving to unexpected clubs, and today will be no different.

So today is the day. The European transfer window closes at midnight tonight and as always there will be a lot of activity throughout the football world. There are usually a few surprising changes, with players moving to unexpected clubs, and today will be no different. One transfer that I expect to go through is Andy Cole leaving Manchester City and joining up with Harry Redknapp at Pompey. This would be a major coup for Portsmouth. All that they lack at this time is a really clinical finisher. Obviously Kanu has scored four goals, but he won’t carry on in that vain all season. What he will do is hold the ball up and create numerous chances for a predator like Andrew Cole. Another club who will splash some cash today are Aston Villa. Yesterday’s signing of Petrov was not the last we will see of Randy’s cheque book this year. I’ve no doubt that the club can now attract some star names, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a real star walked through the doors of Villa Park this afternoon. At Stamford Bridge, the will he won’t he , Ashley Cole saga will reach it’s conclusion. I expect Cole to stay at Arsenal, but he’s shown his true colours now. He has no loyalty to the club that made him and I wouldn’t be surprised if some fans turned on him at first. And then there’s the mighty money machine that is Manchester United. I think they’ll sign a striker today, if only because Rossi has now joined Newcastle United. Who it will be, I don’t know. But we’ll soon find out…
