Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano join West Ham

My mind has just been blown open by some truly startling news. BBC Sport reports: ‘Argentina striker Carlos Tevez says he and team-mate Javier Mascherano have agreed to sign for West Ham. The World Cup duo, who both play for Corinthians in Brazil, are set to move to Upton Park on a year-long loan.

Tevez, 22, claims on his website he and Mascherano, 22, have signed contracts with West Ham despite being linked with moves to Manchester United and Arsenal.

The Hammers are thought to have struck a deal with Media Sports Investments, who own the rights to the two players.’ Truly this is madness. Hammers fans all around the country must be absolutely ecstatic. Imagine playing Tevez and Dean Ashton up front together. That’s a pretty special forward line. God knows how Alan Curbishly sold the club to them, but he did it and that’s all that matters at this stage.

In other news, Manchester City striker Andrew Cole has passed a medical at Portsmouth and will complete a deal if he can agree terms.

Pompey have agreed to pay City a fee that will rise to £1m, depending on the 34-year-old's appearances.

And he is believed to have been offered an even better deal than he has at Eastlands - a two-year contract worth around £40,000 a week.

While Sunderland manager Roy Keane is set to make former Manchester United colleague Dwight Yorke his first signing as Black Cats manager.

Sunderland are in discussions with Yorke's club Sydney FC over a deal for the 34-year-old.

"We're in negotiations for the transfer to England," said Sydney manager and former England captain Terry Butcher.

"They're ongoing but with no resolution at the moment. He still believes he can prove himself on the biggest stage."

Yorke did not travel with his team-mates to Melbourne on Thursday and remained in Sydney in case he needed to undergo a medical or sign relevant paperwork.

"It will be a big loss to us and to the A-League because he's our marquee player and will be difficult to replace," added Butcher.

"We would like him to stay, he's a great player."

Some Sunderland fans have suggested it’s a poor signing but I think Yorke’s experience will be an undoubted plus. He can definitely score goals in the Championship, and could even play in a withdrawn role just behind a front two.

Surely the transfer would be the biggest in West Ham's history!! Could this mirror the move Tottenham Hotspur made for Osvaldo Ardiles and Ricardo Villa back in the 1970s, when both helped the London club to FA Cup victory in 1981 and 82 as well as the Uefa Cup??

I wouldn't be surprised if Chelsea weren't behind the whole transfer!! I don't think such high profile players would sign for the hammers without there being something behind the scene we don't know about!!

I've heard a whisper that Chelsea have something to do with the transfers. Seems to be a case that they brokered a deal for the duo to go to West Ham for a year to gain Premiership experience to ready them for the 2007-08 season at the Bridge.
Mascherano is a player I rate very highly indeed and could be a fantastic replacement for Makalele who surely doesn't have a great deal of time left at the very highest level.
This move may also free up Nigel Reo-Coker fora move to Old Trafford as Fergie must surely have given up hope of landing Owen Hergreaves after Uli Hooness' very public statement of intent to keep the player at Bayern.
In closing I must add that Alan Curbishley is not the West Ham manager.

Tevez and Mascherano to West Ham is a complete joke. As far as I recall Roman Abramovich bankrolls the players' agent, so this is his and Jose's work to keep two class players away from Man Utd or Arsenal.
